Aerial view of an open-pit mine wall with digitized breaklines highlighting crest and toe edges to improve DTM accuracy.

Breaklines

Breaklines are especially important for an accurate DTM/DGM because they represent key terrain edges and strongly influence interpolation and therefore the overall quality of the model.

They are particularly relevant in open-pit mining and similar environments. Breaklines mark terrain lines where the slope changes significantly, for example at a crest line, toe line, scarp edge, or distinct terrain steps.

Based on our georeferenced 3D data and/or a DTM/DGM combined with a hillshade, we can digitize breaklines precisely and export them in various file formats. As with contours, we can provide breaklines in both 2D and 3D if required.

Possible file formats:
*.shp
*.dxf / *.dwg
